<strong>Computer Vision: From Recognition to Understanding</strong>

報告簡介：

Since the very beginning of AI, computer vision has been a key enabling technology. In this talk, we will first review computer vision’s 50 years of progress. We will highlight key milestones on good features, SVMs, and DNNs. We will also cover recent key progresses in image classification, detection and semantic segmentation. Moving from image recognition to image understanding, we will specifically discuss recent achievements in how to use deep learning and language model to generate close-to-human quality sentences from images and videos. In conclusion, we show there are still many challenges in all the above discussed tasks and rally the researchers to bring the image/video understanding research to the next level.

報告人簡介：

  芮勇博士現任微軟亞洲研究院常務副院長，負責多媒體搜索方向，大數據挖掘方向的科研，以及全院各方向的工程創新項目。在此之前, 芮勇博士是微軟美國總部研究院主任研究員，負責多媒體協同系統方向的科研。在美國微軟總部工作7年後，芮勇于2006年初回到中國。先後擔任微軟亞太研發集團首任戰略總監 (2006-2008), 負責制定和執行集團的整體研發戰略; 研發總監 (2008-2010), 負責公司第一款教育産品在華的研發；以及微軟亞洲工程院副院長及微軟亞太研發集團中國創新孵化部總經理 (2010-2012), 負責集團在華産品的創新及孵化。芮勇在微軟的17年涵蓋了企業研發的四大支柱：戰略制定，基礎科研，創新孵化，及産品開發。
  芮勇是國際電氣電子工程學會會士(IEEE Fellow)，國際模式識别學會會士(IAPR Fellow), 國際光學工程學會會士(SPIE Fellow) 和國際計算機協會傑出科學家(ACM Distinguished Scientist)。芮勇獲得 IEEE Computer Society 2016 技術成就獎，IEEE Trans. Multimedia 2015 和 ACM Multimedia 2009最佳論文獎。獲得美國及國際技術專利六十餘項。芮博士是中國科技大學和bet356手机版唯一官网博導，中科院，北航和浙江大學的客座教授，是中科院模式識别國家重點實驗室，華中師大國家數字化學習工程技術研究中心，北京大學數字媒體實驗室的技術委員會委員，也是清華企業家協會 (TEEC) 會員。
  芮勇擔任國際多媒體權威學刊 IEEE Multimedia Magazine 主編，ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communication and Applications (TOMM) 編委，以及 IEEE Access 和 International Journal on Multimedia Retrieval 首任編委。芮勇還是 IEEE Tran on Circuits and Systems for Video Technologies (2006-2010), Springer/ACM Multimedia Systems (2004-2006), Journal International Journal on Multimedia Tools and Applications (2004-2006), 和 IEEE Transaction on Multimedia (2004-2008)編委。芮博士是國際計算機協會多媒體專委會 (ACM SIG Multimedia)中國區首任主席。
  芮勇是許多一流國際會議的組織委員會和程序委員會主席:2009年和2014年 ACM多媒體大會聯合總主席，2006年和2012年ACM ICMR聯合總主席，2009年IEEE ICME多媒體大會聯合程序委員會主席, 2006年ACM多媒體大會的程序委員會主席以及2006年環太平洋多媒體大會的程序委員會主席。芮勇還是中國，美國，澳大利亞，及香港自然科學基金評委。
